ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION

COMMITTEE

CAT is governed and managed according to democratic and inclusive principles and practices. The current Steering Committee consists of three elected office bearers - chairperson, secretary, treasurer - and seven general committee members. (link to Climate Action Team Steering Committee in RESOURCES)

Our committee members work closely together to help fulfil our mission and vision. We also work closely with our local communities, farmers and businesses, our local council and our Victorian state government to achieve our goals.

The Steering Committee meets weekly, variously at Colac, Forrest and Apollo Bay and is responsible for the association's governance as well as initiating, designing, managing and monitoring Team activities. Team actions and campaigns can and do arise from anywhere within the membership.

MEMBERS

Our members (170 signed up members as at FEB 2023) come from all walks of life, all types of background and from all districts within the Colac Otway region.

Currently, there are no joining fees and members choose their level of engagement and contribution to CAT activities according to their capacity to contribute (time, energy, finances and skills).

A General Meeting of Members was held on 2 December 2021 at the Colac Bowling Club premises. (link to Minutes of General Meeting 2 Dec 2021 in RESOURCES).

FUNDING

CAT's activities and operations are funded entirely from volunteer donations, fund raising a events (such as film nights and forums) and community grants.  The Climate Action Team gratefully acknowledges grant support from the Bendigo Bank. (link to Make a Donation in  JOIN US)

COLLABORATIONS & ADVISORS

CAT is one of a number of like-minded local groups who are also committed to taking action to address the climate and biodiversity crisis and their impacts in the Colac Otway region.

The primary authority we refer to for the current science of climate change, in all its forms and in all its ramifications for Australia, is The Climate Council

And, internationally,  it is the IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

More locally, CAT is forging collaborations with Farmers for Climate Action (FCA) and action partnerships with Southern Otways Sustainable Inc (SOS) and the Otway Climate Emergency Action Network (OCEAN).
